How can impact investing provides companies, private foundations and individuals the means to align our values with our investments and support issues we feel strongly about while gaining positive returns? Impact investing expert Dan Crisafulli affirms how social capital can help resolve environmental and social challenges we face today.

Founder of Potrero Impact Advisors, Dan has been at the intersection of impact investment since the early 1990’s. Dan has provided insight to a myriad of private banks, foundations and individuals. His insight includes guiding investments at Skoll Foundation, a charitable organization started by eBay Founder Jeff Skoll to support global concerns in India, Africa, the Middle East and other areas through investment, education and media.

The impact space has existed for decades, and is now gaining tremendous momentum. Dan helps us understand what impact investment really is, and what specific ways an organization needs to adhere within a somewhat undefined code of ethics and qualifications. He illuminates qualities of a truly authentic impact investment as one that benefits humanity in a variety of ways.

Dan helps us understand where this intersection exists, making an investment impact versus hype. Crisafulli also talks about what he believes needs to happen to protect the integrity of the impact market space–allowing it to become mainstream yet ensuring the integrity of impact remain in tact.

When examining the plethora of issues our planet and humanity face, it is easy to get overwhelmed. But one can be empowered by the rising force of good in the world, and be inspired to employ wealth generating activities in a way that helps shift the world and align profit with our values.

Never before have has there been such an opportunity. The Rockefeller & JP Morgan Impact Investment Report projects a $1 trillion opportunity in impact investment opportunity in the next 10 years. When you look at microfinance, medical, agriculture, waste, cleantech and the variety of ways that one can grow new opportunities – there is an infectious impetus to invest wisely. And a hunger for knowledge to do so with the same rigor as traditional investing.

This week in San Francisco, experts from around the world will descend on the Fort Mason Center to attend SoCapital Markets, a conference on impact investing featuring philanthropies, entrepreneurs, non-profits, and investors in the space. The SoCap conference is so popular, they sold out the 1600 attendance before the event even started.

Coming up November 14 and 15, another quality event on impact investing to go to is TBLI Conference in Zurich, presented by TBLIGroup, a global organization focusing on triple bottom line investing for the past decade.
