Jeff Mendelsohn’s mission has been to pioneer markets to prove that sustainable business is a viable avenue to create profit. This led to starting New Leaf Paper, a 30 million a year privately held paper company that has set the standards for 100% recycled paper in the mainstream.
In this video interview, Jeff Mendelsohn reveals his unique insight on the driving ethics of sustainable business, and shares his vision of New Leaf Paper at inception as a catalyst for change, as well as his deep thoughts on policy towards carbon reduction.
Jeff’s passion for business began in college as he built a family business into an industry game changer despite the challenges of old mill design based on processing timber. Without outside investors, Jeff followed his imperative to meet the goals of profitability versus failing and therefor debunking the notion of a profitable sustainable business.
He asserts his tax and spend policy to help aling government spending with our common goals vitalize the clean tech and sustainable business sectors. Jeff believes taxation on carbon is essential, but do it slowly to insure we enable carbon creators the ability to manage the change. He also believes that government spending aligned with sustainability can provide a necessary catalyst for change.
By stimulating the clean energy sector with government spending, this moves us away from foreign oil through sustainable alternatives such as solar.
Government can be harbingers of change through taxes and spending that reflect the goals of the people. In the vein of our forefathers who set the corporate charter for business in the newly formed United States of America, companies are doing business in service to the community.
