In Bozeman, Montana they do it right when it comes to carbon offsets. Oboz Footwear has an approach that holds up the philosophy of their company which cares about wilderness areas. “Plant a tree for every shoe we sell”. So, Oboz does just that.

Understanding the basic values of their customers, they formed a solution to carbon offsets that addresses the series deforestation issues our nations faces when less than 8 percent of our wilderness areas remain wild according the the Bureau of Land Management. Imagine how much of the pollution and CO2 issues we could address if every product sold had an oxygen producing carbon sequestering species associated with it? We would begin to radically change the systems around us – and breath a lot easier!

This corporate philosophy was what literally carried me through Yellowstone, as I traipsed through geysers and mountains in my new Oboz Women’s Half-Sawtooth. Sturdy and made from durable eco-friendly materials. Their philosophy is  simplicity and quality. Their  technological features were apparently designed to improve the performance of the shoe in “direct and meaningful ways” rather than “throwing on unnecessary gadgets that sound cool, but do little to improve the shoe”.

Oboz family using their footware technology - kicking back!According to the company owner John, “Some of the best moments in our own lives have been outside, and we believe that the more people who can experience the outdoors, the better. For that reason, we enjoy the fact that Oboz shoes help equip people for their outdoor adventures, but we didn’t want it to stop there. As a result, we’ve put together a few projects that we’re all pretty excited about.”

They are serious wilderness folk who have deep commitment to the environment and big hearts.
